Hey. Welcome to TwinsyTwins.
You might be wondering who we are or why we're here.
In short, we're twin parents and we're here to help other parents of twins and multiples navigate parenthood with two or more babies.
Our executive editor also happens to be a twin, so she's got a unique viewpoint as someone who's raising identical twins and who's also experienced growing up as a fraternal twin.
When we learned we were having twins, we wanted to be as prepared as possible for what was to come…two babies at the same time.
Despite doing lots of reading and asking around, we had a hard time finding stuff that was "twin-specific." Most of the stuff we came across focused on parenting a singleton, which is generally helpful, so we read up on it, anyway.
But these tidbits about having just one tot were also not really all that helpful at the same time…because when you get down to the nitty gritty of twin parenting, it's a whole new ballgame.
...when you get down to the nitty gritty of twin parenting, it's a whole new ballgame.
Yes, it's magical and wonderful, and you get to have double the fun and double the love. But you also get double the work and twice as many challenges. And those challenges quickly get compounded by the logistics of doing things feasibly and safely.
A lot of the things you would instinctively do when you have one baby become near-impossible because they are much more difficult or can't be feasibly or physically done safely when you have twins…especially two brand-new babies who don't have any neck or core strength yet.
A lot of the things you would instinctively do when you have one baby become near-impossible because they are much more difficult or can't be feasibly or physically done safely when you have twins...
A few of the people and organizations I asked for twin-specific advice while I was pregnant told me, "Well, you do it like this (insert activity here), but times two." And this is sort of a case of That's Easier Said Than Done.
To me, this advice means they personally haven't experienced actually doing those things with two babies because the way you go about things when you have multiple newborns at the same time is much more different than when you have a single baby.
How do you safely load and unload two newborns into and out of the car if you're on your own? (You can read about that, here). How do you safely bathe two newborn babies when you're flying solo on bath day? (You can read about that, here). How do you successfully sleep train two babies who are trying to fall asleep in the same room at the same time? (You can read about that, here).
There's a lot of multi-tasking involved, and you and your partner, plus any additional helping hands you may have, must learn how to work together as a well-oiled machine if things are going to go smoothly.
Beyond that, you have to figure out how to fit double the things into your nursery, while still making sure the room is functional and, hopefully, not nearly as cramped as the living quarters in your ever-expanding uterus.
As part of that, you need to take stock and decide what you actually need to buy or register for...what you must have two of and what you can reasonably get by with just one of. You can read our take on that, here.
On the heels of that, you also need to consider which of these things you can buy used and which, for safety reasons, should be purchased new. We cover both of these topics, and so much more, here on TwinsyTwins.
For those who are navigating the unknowns that come with the territory of twin parenthood, we want to help make things easier in any way we can.
For those who are navigating the unknowns that come with the territory of twin parenthood, we want to help make things easier in any way we can. And so, much like our multiples, TwinsyTwins was born.
We want to offer support and guidance that will genuinely and authentically help other parents of twins navigate the rough waters of the early newborn days–and beyond–with their babies. If we're doing our job right, it'll feel like a walk in the park.
Yes, I am laughing at that comparison now that I'm through the newborn stage...and you will, too, once you get to the other side.
What do you want to see on TwinsyTwins? Are there any topics you'd like us to cover? Let us know in the Comments section below.
