Any parent of small humans knows the importance of always having snacks on their person, in their bag—somewhere within near-immediate reach.
Because any parent of small humans also knows there is a very small window in which you can go from having two, gleeful toddlers who are playing joyfully side-by-side to having two snacky crumb-detectors who are rapidly heading toward The Hangry Zone at record speed.
And when that moment inevitably comes, your time is incredibly limited.
You need the right snack, and you need it now.
Because when you get snacky, sometimes, only "the right snack" will do.
It's got to hit the spot. And fast.
Trail mix is the perfect sweet and salty concoction that can help you avoid a major meltdown…or, if you have twins who time it just right, two simultaneous meltdowns.
This classic snack is versatile and offers a symphonic arrangement of textures and flavors that hit all the right notes to keep your toddlers energized.
More importantly, the right mix can quell any hangry feelings before they take over and threaten to upset your day.
Easy-to-make, easy-to-grab
Here's an easy-to-make, easy-to-grab, toddler-friendly version of trail mix that will please any little one's little tummy.
You can make one batch to keep at home and a second one to fill on-the-go containers. We really like these "to-go" containers by Melii.
Melii Snap & Go Baby Food Storage Containers with Lids
This is a 12-pack of Snap & Go Baby Food Storage Containers with Lids by Melii. They're bright and fun and are the perfect size for little toddler hands to securely carry their very important snacky-snacks.
They're big enough to hold a decent serving but still small enough that your toddler can easily carry the container around on all of their adventures.
When you're at home, these snack cups by Munchkin are perfect for quick access to a handful of trail mix while promoting the development of their grasping and hand-eye coordination skills.
Munchkin Snack Catcher Toddler Snack Cups, 2 Pack
This is a two-pack of Munchkin's Snack Catcher Toddler Snack Cups. This pack comes with a blue cup and a green cup. There is another two-pack option that comes with pink and purple cups.
With twins, you'll go through any and all snacks much more quickly than if you had just one kiddo, so you don't need to worry about the trail mix not staying fresh before you can enjoy it.
We keep ours in mason jars just like these ones to seal in optimal freshness.
Ball Wide Mouth Clear Glass Canning Quart 32-Ounce Mason Jars with Lids, 12 Pack
This is a 12-pack of 32-ounce, clear glass canning mason jars with lids by Ball.
And YOU may also find yourself enjoying it…when you're constantly running after your twins, you could get snacky yourself and need a little something just to keep you going.
How to Make Very Berry Legendary Toddler Trail Mix
Ingredients
- General Mills Very Berry Cheerios
- Parent's Choice Mixed Berry Freeze Dried Fruit Yogurt Bites
- Parent's Choice Strawberry Freeze Dried Fruit Yogurt Bites
- Gerber Fig Berry Puffs
- Gerber Blueberry & Vanilla Puffs
- Gerber Strawberry & Apple Puffs
- Little Gourmet Fruit & Veggies Bites – Apple, Carrot & Pumpkin with Chia
- Little Gourmet Fruit & Veggies Bites – Blueberry, Carrot & Apple with Quinoa
- Sunmaid Raisins
Method
Open all ingredients and empty contents into a large mixing bowl, adding the Cheerios last, as you may not use the entire bag.
Use a spatula or spoon to gently fold ingredients to evenly disperse them throughout the mix.
Slowly add more Cheerios until the mix ratio looks right (you'll know it when you see it...your parent palette will just sense it).
Slowly pour the trail mix into your washed (and dried!) mason jars and seal them to lock in the goodness.
Fill up your Munchkin Snack Catchers or Melii Snap & Go containers as needed and enjoy!
