Considering babies are so petite, they sure come with a shocking amount of paraphernalia.
Just one baby requires almost more than you can carry, and when you're carrying twins, that amount basically doubles.
You don't need two of absolutely everything, but you do need to double-up on most items.
Luckily, we found out we were expecting twins before we bought everything we needed for the nursery—but we were less than two weeks out from buying everything when we got the news and we had already narrowed down some of our nursery picks.
Pivoting to plan for twins instead of a single baby changed many of the ideas we'd settled on, including several of the items we'd added to our baby registry.
Pivoting to plan for twins instead of a single baby changed many of the ideas we'd settled on, including several of the items we'd added to our baby registry.
As once-exhausted parents to a set of newborn twins, we put together an exhaustive list of what you actually need to have two of if you're having twins.
That'll help you get started on your list of must-have items, and once you're ready to rock, you'll want to put together a gift registry.
Not only will it help you keep track of what you've secured and what you still need to track down, but the registry will also be handy because you know all of your friends, family, and other loved ones will be asking what you could use when the babies are born.
Luckily, creating a baby registry can be as easy as 1-2-3
- 1. Go to Amazon's Baby Registry page If you're in Canada, click here. If you're in the United States, click here.
- 2. Enter the details you're prompted for This will only take you a minute or two and includes your name, your babies' arrival date, whether these are your first babies, your shipping address, whether you want the list to be public (you can keep it private while you're populating your wish list), and that's basically it.
- 3. Make your registry official Type in the CAPTCHA code you'll be asked to enter, so the website knows you're not a robot, click "Create Registry," and you're in business!
Then, all that's left to do is search for your highly-coveted items and add them to your list to curate the perfect registry to share with anyone who asks what you and your little ones need.
Why choose Amazon for your baby registry?
There are plenty of places you can choose to create gift registries at. We chose to create our baby registry with Amazon because it made sense for us. It was easy to do, and it had every single item we hoped for.
Amazon carries all of the top baby brands. We're talking:
- 4moms
- Baby Brezza
- Baby Einstein
- BabyBjörn
- Burt's Bees
- Chicco
- Diaper Genie
- Dr. Brown's
- Ergobaby
- Evenflo
- Fisher Price
- Graco
- Gerber
- Halo
- Huggies
- Johnson's
- Joovy
- Little Tikes
- Medela
- Melissa and Doug
- Munchkin
- Nanit
- Nuk
- Nuna
- Pampers
- Philips
- Skip Hop
- Step 2
- Tommee Tippee
- Ubbi
- Uppababy
- VTech
And there are more major baby brands beyond the ones mentioned here. You just have to search for whatever your heart desires and know that you will most likely find what you're looking for on Amazon.
Even better, Amazon's baby registry service suggests items you might have forgotten, which I know was a handy tool when I was putting together our registry. There were certain items I hadn't even considered but that made perfect sense to add to our baby registry, and I was thankful to have the reminder while I was populating our registry.
Amazon's baby registry service suggests items you might have forgotten, which I know was a handy tool when I was putting together our registry.
Another useful benefit of creating your baby registry with Amazon is that it offers ideas for various age groups, which can be advantageous if you're someone who prefers to shop systematically.
But most importantly, the Amazon baby registry was simple to use for those who wished to get us something and offered a variety of price-points and styles to choose from.
Shipping is simple
Almost everyone we know has an Amazon account, so they could find what they wanted on our list and then choose to have the item shipped to themselves (if they wanted to wrap it up) or sent directly to us if it was, say, a bigger, bulkier item that might be more difficult to wrap or transport to a baby shower.
After your twins' baby shower has wrapped and all of the presents have been unwrapped, you may find you have more than you need or have received unintentional duplicates from well-meaning people who may have strayed from the registry.
Another plus about Amazon's baby registry is that it offers a very good one-year return policy, so you don't have to worry about any hassles on that side of things.
There are flexible gifting options
Yet another reason an Amazon baby registry is a nice option is because when you sign up to create your registry, you can choose whether you want to receive gift cards as part of the registry, if you want to allow people to contribute to a diaper fund for you, or whether you want to offer joint gifting opportunities for bigger-ticket items.
It's incredibly easy to manage
With a click of a button, you can see which items on your list have been fulfilled, even if you haven't received them yet because maybe your baby shower won't be taking place for another couple of months.
The registry organizes everything in your list by category (baby care, bedding, clothing, diapering, feeding, etc.), making it easy to locate specific items very quickly.
Being able to see that something's been purchased (and specifically how many, if you've requested multiple items for your multiples bundles of joy), even if you don't know who bought it for you and your babies, can give you a sense of relief because you know that some of the really-must-have-and-don't-want-to-leave-it-to-chance items will definitely be coming your way before your babies do.
There are welcome gifts to be had
If you have an Amazon Prime membership, you're eligible to receive a welcome gift, free-of-charge, when you create your registry and add 20 items to it.
The gift au gratis is sent out once your registry purchases reach more than $25 (from yourself or from other gifters).
There are savings to be made
As a bonus, Amazon's baby registry service offers its users a 15 percent discount on eligible items as a completion incentive.
In order to take advtange of these savings, your registry has to have been active for at least two weeks. You can use the discount starting 60 days before your twins' due date and up until 90 days after their due date.
You can link your Amazon registry to other registries
While we found everything we wanted on Amazon, there are other baby registry services out there that you may find some additional wish-list items on, from Babies 'R' Us, to Indigo, to online boutique stores or independent shops, like the small business owners who run storefronts on Etsy.
If you find yourself in this situation, it's possible to link your Amazon Baby Registry and your other baby registries together into one easily accessible, universal location, so your friends and family can find everything in one streamlined space, rather than having to deal with a handful of different baby registries.
Sites such as MyRegistry.com and BabyList.com allow you to compile your registries into one central spot and even let you add products from other stores that might carry smaller brands and don't offer registries, on the off-chance you find that one it's-so-totally-yours-and-can't-be-found-anywhere-else item for your nursery.
So, once you create your Amazon Baby Registry and curate your wish list, it could be worth investigating one of these services to streamline the details on your baby shower invitations.
