There's a reason the medical professionals who work within the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) use Philips Avent Soothies pacifiers for premature babies.
It's probably the same reason that parents of newborns also seem to choose the same soothers for their recently welcomed bundles of joy. They work—and they work wonders.
These soothers, while being literally transparent, make it easy to see why they're a best-seller.
I can attest to how spectacular these soothers are. Our twins were born six-and-a-half weeks early. They each spent some time in the NICU (one came home after two weeks; the other, after four weeks).
Both at the hospital and at home, these pacifiers were, hands-down, the favorite of multiple soother options in our household.
The strong, medical-grade silicone is tasteless and odorless, yet soft and gentle against your babies' sensitive skin.
Some people say these pacifiers don't stay in their small newborn's mouth very well. Our twins were born at only 3 lbs., 7 oz., and 4 lbs., 13 oz., and they both had no problem with these soothers and actually preferred them over other brands.
Philips AVENT Soothie 0-3 Months Pacifier
This four-pack of pacifiers will stock your living room, nursery, and diaper bag. Available in multiple colors, you can assign a hue to each baby.
The innovative one-piece construction of these pacifiers means parents don't have to worry about parts coming off in your newborn babies' mouths.
Instead, you can use the Soothie's finger-held design to bond with your baby and help them latch by placing your finger into hole beneath the soother's nipple.
The flexible shield around the outside of the Soothie provides a secure place to safely attach a soother clip.
We loved the silicone pacifier clips by Bella Tunno; while we had other brands and styles of clips, we didn't use them because the Bella Tunno ones were such a hit with our twins.
The clips are made of non-toxic, food-grade silicone, have a stainless steel clip that securely stays in place once closed, and are also free of BPA, PVC, and phthalates.
Their bright, vibrant colors help stimulate your baby's sensory development, while the textures on the clip soothe your little one's gums.
Plus, they can be tossed right into the dishwasher, clip and all, for easy cleaning.
Bella Tunno Silicone Infant Pacifier Clip Set
This is the pacifier clip set by Bella Tunno. The bright colors stimulate baby's sensory development and the textures soothe your newborn's gums.
In addition to using two different colors of Philips Avent Soothie pacifiers (Baby A had green, while Baby B had blue), we also used two different colors of pacifier clips to help with the visual differentiation.
The color-coding method allowed us to very quickly know which twin was which with nothing more than a mere glance—and when you're in the thick of the all-encompassing exhaustion that sets in during the newborn twin stage, with two babies who both need something like, yesterday, a quick glance is all you need.
You can read all about that in this article with quick tips on how to tell your identical newborn twins apart.
Another reason we loved the Philips Avent Soothies for our twins is that the smooth silicone has a subtle grip, so when you place it down on their swing or chair nearby, it's not going to go tumbling away, meaning it's actually always within reach wherever you place it down and it's not going anywhere.
This is a huge win because nobody wants to be frantically searching for their baby's favorite binky when their newborn very adamantly decides they want their pacifier RIGHT NOW but their sweet, little sibling is snuggled right up beside them, drowsily dozing in SnoozeTown.
In addition, these soothers are easy to sanitize; you can throw them into the dishwasher or stash them into the sterilizer for a quick clean. And one of the best parts is that these pacifiers won't become sticky, discolored, or misshapen, no matter how many hours they log between your newborn twin babies.
Having said that, Philips does suggest replacing soothers after four weeks of use for hygienic reasons. Fortunately, these are one of the most affordable soothers on the market. And if you're buying a four-pack for each baby for color-coding purposes, you'll be set for some time before needing to restock.
Or, if your twins are like ours, they may wean themselves off of their soothers before you need to buy more. On that note, weaning your babies off of their soothers before you dive into sleep training will make a huge difference when it comes to how well everybody sleeps through the night (the key is teaching them how to self-soothe instead of relying on a soother; you can read about how to successfully sleep train your twins, here).
In the meantime, let the Soothie work its mighty magic with your small mighty multiples.
